Pathology Assistant (Sayre, PA)

Guthrie Medical Group is seeking a Pathology Assistant to join its practice

Highlights of the Position

• Under the supervision of a Pathologist or the Lab Medical Director, assist the Pathologists in implementing and monitoring the Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement Program in Anatomic Pathology.
• Assures appropriate specimen accessioning by assisting processors or grossing technicians with correct specimen definitions
• Knowledgeable of clinical history laboratory data x-rays and scans when indicated
• Describes gross anatomic features and dissecting surgical specimens-details using dictation or voice recognition systems
• Prepares tissue for microscopic examination, including preparation of frozen sections and permanent sections for light electron and immunofluorescent microscopy
• Photographing all pertinent specimens as directed by the Pathologist
• Collates and reports at Laboratory or Medical conferences the Pathology Quality Program results
• Performs special quality investigations as requested
• Assists in the organization and coordination of Anatomic Pathology
• Assures that the pathology information system is up to date with nomenclature and descriptions and correctly associated with billing
• Oversees the procedures and policies within the gross cutting room
• Ability to use the LV1 live scanner for frozen section consultation slides
• Team of six (6) Pathologists and (2) PAs
• The Laboratory Medical Director may assign other duties at times
   

Salary Range

$105,000 to $140,000
 

Education/Experience

• A candidate/graduate of an American Association of Pathologist Assistants (AAPA)/NAACLS educational program. If candidate is
• Eligible to sit for the AAPA Fellowship Examination or is certified this would be preferred.
• Experienced Pathologist Assistant preferred; new graduates will be accepted.
